Major Robert 'Rex' King-Clark (1913-2007). This photograph was taken on the 2nd February 1945. This was the day that Rex was confirmed as the Commanding Officer of the 2nd Battalion and promoted to Lieutenant Colonel.
In this photograph Rex still wears the rank badge of a Major on his shoulder. He was able to 'put up my Lieut Colonel pips for first time' on the 3rd, 'which felt a bit funny!'
Rex had been in the Army for almost exactly 11 years at this point. He led the 2nd Battalion for the rest of the war, and continued to serve until 1958.
In retirement Rex lived in Shandon in Dunbartonshire, and wrote several books about Regimental personalities and his wartime experiences.
